Luigi Cabrini, GSTC chair spoke on tourism and climate change.
Cabrini has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council since 2014, and before that he worked as the Director of the UNWTO Sustainable Tourism Programme and was also the UNWTO Director for Europe and Secretary of the General Assembly and Executive Council.

Carbon footprint of tourism is four times higher than thought

As per a study published yesterday in Nature Climate Change, carbon footprint of tourism is about four times larger than thought of previously.
Researchers from the University of Sydney, University of Queensland and National Cheng Kung University worked together to consider the entire supply chain of tourism. This includes transportation, accommodation, food and beverages, souvenirs, clothing, cosmetics and other goods.
Collectively, global tourism produces about 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which is much more than previous estimates. Tourism is a trillion-dollar industry...
