Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee hired an Arizona sex-crimes prosecutor to ask questions on their behalf at a scheduled hearing during which Christine Blasey Ford will speak publicly about her sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh.
Rachel Mitchell, a Maricopa County attorney, will lead a round of questioning at the hearing on Thursday.
Committee chairman Chuck Grassley initially did not reveal Mitchell's identity Tuesday night, but he changed course after some sharp rebukes from Ford's attorneys and others.

Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans announced on Tuesday that they hired Maricopa County, Arizona sex crimes prosecutor Rachel Mitchell to question Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford in a hearing centered on Ford's sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh.

Several of Brett Kavanaugh's Yale colleagues who endorsed his confirmation to the Supreme Court are now calling for an investigation into the sexual assault accusations he's facing.
Kent Sinclair, Douglas Rutzen and Mark Osler, all signed an August 27 letter from Yale Law School alumni to the Senate Judiciary Committee defending Kavanaugh's character.
Kavanaugh is set to testify with Dr. Christine Blasey Ford on Thursday. Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were both teenagers in the 1980s.
